The natural gas used by consumers consists mainly of methane, with smaller amounts of C₂–C₆ hydrocarbons and permanent gas impurities.
However, raw natural gas varies greatly depending on its source — whether from oil wells, gas wells, or condensate wells — and is not pure when initially produced. Because natural gas composition differs from source to source, accurate analysis requires specialized analyzer configurations tailored to each application.
The JAS Natural Gas Analyzer (NGA) can be configured for precise analysis of every natural gas type and complies with widely used international methods, including GPA 2261, GPA 2186, GPA 2286, ASTM D1945, and ISO 6974.
Modular Design & Configuration Options
The JAS NGA is based on a modular concept, offering flexible configurations such as:
- Backflush with C6+ or C7+ early backflush grouping (user selectable)
- Extended natural gas analysis up to C16 or higher
- Combination of backflush and extended analysis
- Additional channels for helium/hydrogen or sulfur analysis
Technical Overview
The JAS Natural Gas Analyzer is a multi-channel system built on the Agilent 8890 GC platform.
It can be equipped with:
- Up to two Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCDs)
- One Flame Ionization Detector (FID)
- A JAS ValveBox that integrates sample handling and column switching valves, capable of accommodating (micro-) packed columns.
Each analytical channel operates independently, enabling the determination of all permanent gases, hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide, and individual hydrocarbon components in a single analysis.
The parallel configuration allows channels to run simultaneously, optimizing speed and efficiency.
Available Options

- Liquid Sampling Valves for LPG sampling
- JAS BTU Software for automatic calculation of physical properties after each analysis
- GICU (Gas Injection Control Unit) – a state-of-the-art loop filling manager that ensures highly reproducible results for gaseous matrices with variable pressures
