Crude Oil Analyzer
Comprehensive Solution for True Boiling Point (TBP) Determination
Overview
The JAS Crude Oil Analyzer is a high-performance system designed to deliver a complete True Boiling Point (TBP) profile of crude oils and complex hydrocarbon mixtures by combining front-end Detailed Hydrocarbon Analysis (DHA-FE) and High-Temperature Simulated Distillation (HT SimDis) results into a single, unified report.
This integrated approach provides superior resolution, greater accuracy, and a complete distillation curve, allowing refiners, laboratories, and R&D centers to better understand crude composition and optimize refining operations.
Leading standardization bodies such as ASTM, IP, and CEN are currently developing and approving official methods that support the merging of separate DHA and SimDis analyses for precise and reproducible TBP reporting. The JAS Crude Oil Analyzer is built in line with these evolving global standards.
System Configuration
The JAS Crude Oil Analyzer combines two proven analytical techniques:
- DHA Front End (FE) — for detailed separation and identification of light hydrocarbons (C₁–C₁₂ range) using capillary GC columns.
- High-Temperature Simulated Distillation (HT SimDis) — for characterization of mid to heavy boiling fractions up to 720 °C (C₇–C₁₂₀+ range).
These complementary datasets are merged by the JAS Merge Expert Software Module, which accurately aligns and corrects both chromatographic datasets to produce a single, continuous True Boiling Point (TBP) curve.
Each analyzer is based on the Agilent 8890 GC platform and can be configured with:
- PTV or UNIS 3100 HT inlet systems (temperature programmable up to 500 °C)
- FID detection for quantitative hydrocarbon response
- JAS ValveBox and application-specific column sets
Performance Highlights
- Full-range TBP curve (from light naphtha to residue fractions)
- High precision and reproducibility through integrated DHA + SimDis correlation
- Fast and automated data merging for complete compositional profiles
- Accurate front-end correction to minimize overlap and improve mass balance
- Compliance-ready for emerging ASTM/IP/CEN TBP correlation methods
Software and Data Integration
Powered by Hydrocarbon Expert and SimDis Expert software, the system integrates both datasets with:
- Automated data alignment, merging, and normalization
- Real-time visualization of the composite boiling point distribution
- Configurable correlation to ASTM D86 and D1160 distillation data
- Reporting of physical parameters such as vapor pressure, density, flash point, and cetane index
- Multi-format export options (PDF, Excel, CSV, LIMS)
