Refinery Gas Analyzer (Mach-RGA)
Fast, accurate, and reliable analysis of complex refinery gas mixtures.
Overview
Refinery gas consists of complex mixtures originating from multiple sources during the crude oil refining process. Measuring these gas compositions precisely and consistently is a key challenge in today’s refinery operations — demanding a versatile, flexible, and robust analyzer.
The JAS Refinery Gas Analyzer (Mach-RGA) is a dedicated system specifically engineered to analyze refinery gases quickly, accurately, and repeatably, ensuring dependable results under demanding industrial conditions.
The Mach-RGA meets or exceeds the requirements of several international standard methods, including ASTM D1946, D2163, D2597, UOP 539, and DIN 51666.
Technical Highlights
The JAS Mach-RGA is a multi-channel analyzer built on the Agilent 8890 GC platform.
It can be equipped with:
- Two Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCDs)
- One Flame Ionization Detector (FID)
- JAS ValveBox option, accommodating both sampling and column-switching valves, as well as micro-packed columns
Each analytical channel operates independently, designed to determine the concentration of all permanent gases (including hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide) and saturated/unsaturated hydrocarbons up to C₅.
Higher hydrocarbons (C₆+) are displayed as a composite peak.
The parallel channel setup allows simultaneous operation, resulting in fast analysis times — typically under 5 minutes, or 7 minutes including H₂S measurement.
Available Options
To tailor the Mach-RGA for specific refinery or petrochemical applications, JAS offers:
- Liquid Sampling Valves for LPG sampling
- Extended Alumina PLOT Columns for improved impurity separation in bulk hydrocarbon streams
- JAS Report Generator Software for automatic calculation of physical properties after analysis
- JAS Methanizer for trace-level CO and CO₂ detection
- JAS GICU (Gas Injection Control Unit) – a state-of-the-art loop filling system that ensures reproducible results for gaseous samples with variable pressures
Why Choose JAS Mach-RGA
- Compliant with ASTM, UOP, and DIN industry standards
- Delivers high accuracy and repeatability in minimal analysis time
- Modular design with flexible detector and valve configurations
- Proven performance in refinery, petrochemical, and process gas analysis
